Aldous Huxley, writing about his fictional island, Pala, would appear to agree with Schopenhauer:
"Pala is probably the only country in which an animal theologian would have no reason for believing in devils. For animals everywhere else, Satan, quite obviously, is Homo Sapiens" (Island, 2005, 186)
