Yuval Noah Harari has written two books on humanity's rise to dominance on planet Earth, Sapiens: A brief history of humankind (2015) and Homo Deus: A brief history of tomorrow (2016). In Sapiens he describes humanity's treatment of animals as "perhaps the worst crime in history," although he points out that prehistory was not much better. Here is a link to his page on animals and ecology on his website:

In Homo Deus, he argues that, if the machines that are likely to take over dominance of the planet from humans, treat humans the way humans have treated animals, on the basis of their superior intelligence, then humans may well face being enslaved or exterminated in the future.
